When in Sevilla…

Your small guide to Sevilla – our baby moon destination! February was a great month to visit – It was sunny but not too hot, it was perfect for walking around – even just in dresses during day.

Greta food, a lot to see, sun, oranges…

Sevilla, we loved you!

What to see:

  • Watch authentic flamenco! we went to La Carboneria . Make sure to come on time – it gets busy. performance is across the bar where you buy drinks (closer to area where you get food), so try to score a place there! Performance is free, but you need to get food/drinks 🙂

Come for atmosphere and flamenco (not dinner). 💃 you will enter close to the bar, show is opposite the bar – near food bar (second bar), so make sure to score a place there! First show starts at 8:30, in my feeling, many people left after it (around 9), so for 9:30 it could be easier to get a spot or move if you had a bad spot before.

  • el Arenal area, especially Cabildo Square – It is a very beautiful semicircular porticoed square, with three floors, designed by Joaquín Barquín y Barón, what we want to highlight are its canvases, with paintings with floral motifs.
  • Las Setas (Mushrooms) – it is nice to visit if you have time, but I would not make effort if you do not have extra time. we had hotel around las seas, so it was easy to have a look. We did not pay to go inside, but that is some nice architecture and has a lot of food places around.
  • Plaza de Torros – 10 euro entry. it is pretty cool to be inside of bull rink – I actually did not realise that actual bull fights still take place – so I learned a lot from the visit!
Plaza de Torros
  • Plaza de Espana – super beautiful place, and it was in Star Wars 😉 and on the way there you can see University which used to be a factory:

Archive the Indies – where you can see Tordesillas Treaty, which is one of the most important documents for the colonization of South America . It is free to visit if you are from EU

  • Of course you will visit Cathedral de Sevilla and Giralda – Largest Gothic cathedral. it was fun, a climb to Giralda was satisfying. Sevilla Cathedral – was pretty dope, and we walked many stairs up to Giralda tower – even though it said “no” to pregnant women, haha. But other than that, it was a cathedral. Largest Gothic one tho! You can also see thomb of Columbus!
Columbus Thomb

Real Alcázar de Sevilla – definitely on list of everyone, and this one I recommend to everyone! And it was also In Game of Thrones in many places!

  • Museo de bellas artes – free entry for EU citizens. Nice museum, but a lot of religious art, so it was quite a learning to enjoy

Day Trips:

  • Cordoba – mezquita. It is such a must see! It is a muslim mosque that became cathedral, and you basically see a mosque surrounded by cathedral! Great day out – but we found taking train in Sevilla so stressful! You are not allowed to enter your waiting spot for train unless you were cleared, and it creates such a line. Also, your bags are checked. we felt we are in the airport, haha. But Cordoba Mezquita, and later walk around Cordoba, were worth it! It was around 1 hour train ride, and we recommend booking train in advance – at least evening of. Even in February, when we came to train station, train that we wanted to get was sold out
  • Be careful if you get audio guide online, you need to go kiosk inside patio and get audio guide first and leave your driving license . And only afterwards you go to line to entrance. Since we entered first and were sent away to get auidoguide Audio tour itself is super good, it enriched a visit a ton
one of the most unique cathedrals I have ever been to
enjoying Cordova
little synagogue
  • Italica – for a visit really close to Sevilla, just use a bus. place where game of thrones was filmed! Entrance is free, if you are EU citizen. It is easy to go by bus (n 170), it costs only 1.7 (as of February 2025) – but be careful, you need to pay cash! we took a bus from Estacion Plaza de Armas Sevilla, and it was an easy ride – bus goes every 15-30 minutes! Be careful, bus departs from inside station (underground), I first went to busses outside of station. Ride was around 20 minutes

we learned some random facts in Italica, such as a well perceived mosaic has shown where names of days of the week came from (from names of planets!! There are food places outside of Italica (you in a small city). There are always toilets at the territory of Italica.

  • Monasterio de San Isidoro del Campo Tip – when being on a bus, we got out not at Italica, but one stop earlier, to enjoy the monastery. Then, from Monastery, we walked towards Italica – it is a nice stroll, and you can see some other old stuff on the way 😀 we saw no need to join any tours, Monastery is small, and there are enough explanations. That is a stop “Colegio Josefo Frias V). Be sure not to arrive later than 13:00 – Monastery closes early, so double check opening times on your trip!

we asked for “when next bus is” and they printed whole schedule for us, haha

real life VS movie

How to get to/from airport:

We found using a taxi easiest. Taxi has fixed tariffs for zones, so it is easy to use.

inside of city we mainly walked. We took a bike one time, but with so many tourists, we could not go to our hotel. We would not recommend.

to Italica we took a bus;

and to Cordoba train

Where to eat?

  • El Librero Tapas Y Quesos – definitely a gem, especially for cheese lovers! Cosy place! We ordered mixed paella which arrived super fast , wnd we got cheese plate of 5 cheeses . Highly recommend cheese plate, it’s their speciality and it’s great! I was pregnant , so they selected cheeses that were good for me!
  • Donaire House Bar – Fun art, great vibes, and we ate a local soup! salmorejo- super tasty! Loved the vibes and drinkssss
  • Paco Pepe – fun decor, great food. We went for dinner a couple of times. It was maybe not super unique/special, but a good dinner place.
  • Pelayo Bar – Nice dinner place but I would say touristy. Good vibes and nice food but you won’t get cozy Spanish treatment here
  • Restaurante Alfafa – 😁 tasty food, good service. Also a great place if you have kids since there is a playground just across

Lunch

  • Restaurante La Entrañable – Great place for Lunch, a bit away from touristy stuffs . Very friendly staff, made great recommendations! And chairs are comfy! I really recommend a big tomato 😍 also ate cheeks and Spanish soups
  • Filo – before your visit to cathedrals – Cozy brunch meal 🥘 after we enjoyed a lot of alcazar and cathedral 😊 You can also have take out.
  • Aba de Sevilla – Huge portions, friendly stuff! I got an omelette which was a real meal in itself!

Ode to food!

Huge tomato!

Salmorejo – cold soup!
